Where are they walking?

What do they think they're playing at?

Two men. One trail. Six days. Eighty four miles of some of the most beautiful and challenging countryside England has to offer. Oh, and a couple of stops for tea and cake. At Easter 2015, Alan and Gary will be walking Hadrian's Wall, the most northerly frontier of the Roman Empire. The path is long and occasionally treacherous and passes through some of the most unleafy suburbs of darkest Newcastle! However, our brave adventurers are not put off by these perils. Follow their blog as they walk from one side of England to the other, using only their feet and legs as a means of propulsion.

Normally people walk the trail from East to West, and almost all of the guidebooks are written this way. Neither Alan or Gary are slaves to convention and so have decided to walk it backwards, West to East. Not only that, on average they'll be walking 14 miles each day. What were they thinking?

The start of a new big adventure . . .

Hi.  Thanks for stopping by.  Welcome to our blog, which is going to document our big expedition.  My Dad and I are going to walk 84 miles in one week from one side of England to the other.  At Easter 2015, we'll be walking the length of Hadrian's Wall, West to East in 6 days.  We'll average around 14 miles a day, some days a bit more and some days a bit less.  We'll post photos and post walk reports along the way, and hopefully you'll keep coming back to keep track of our progress on our interactive weather chart and map.  Also, I will be taking a ukulele with me, so we can continue the Coast to Coast tradition of a song at every stop!  Let's just hope we don't get kicked out for annoying the locals!

It should be a big adventure, following in the footsteps of ancient Britons and Romans along the way. If our 2012 expedition (Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk) was anything to go by, I'm sure we'll meet some lovely people along the way and see some amazing and truly beautiful parts of the British landscape.  Right, where did I put my boots . . .?
